Daily Herald: University Place announces completion of unique apartment complexes

If you have dreamed of an apartment with wrap-around balconies and a Park Place Avenue address, look no further than The Exton apartments at University Place.

University Place announced Monday the completion of two unique residential projects that have been years in the making: The Devon at University Place and The Exton, according to Amanda Butterfield, spokeswoman for owners Woodbury Corp.

The third complex, the Aston was completed a few years ago.

The Devon and Exton apartment buildings also feature ground floor retail space. The Exton units are designed to wrap around a five-story parking garage.

This innovative design is the first of its kind in Utah County and one of a few in Utah. Residents living on the sixth and seventh floors can drive up the parking terrace right into their own closed-in garage.

“I am excited for the announcement of these two unique apartment complexes,” said Orem Mayor Richard Brunst. “This is the first time in Utah County that this kind of combined parking, residential and retail spaces have been built together. University Place continues to bring new and innovative ideas to Orem in the way of mixed-use facilities.”

University Place adds Unique Mixed-Use Element to Orem Landscape

OREM, Utah (August 10, 2020) – University Place, a 120- acre mixed-use development, today announced the completion of two unique residential projects that have been years in the making: The Devon at University Place and The Exton at University Place.

Each apartment building has ground floor retail, and the Exton units are wrapped around a 5-story parking garage – an innovative design that is the first of its kind in Utah County.

The Devon is located at 875 South 700 East, just north of The Aston, which was the first residential project at University Place. Offering covered surface parking, and the most economic living arrangements of the three living options at University Place, The Devon has 130 units.

The most urban lifestyle of the residences is The Exton that has 70 units, and is located at 560 East Park Avenue, in the center of the University Place campus.  With retail located on the ground level, the Exton rises 6 stories above that, offering residents’ spectacular views including Timpanogos Peak to the east and Utah Lake to the West.  The parking in the center of The Exton is also available to shoppers, diners and other guests of University Place.

“The Devon, Exton along with The Aston are all distinct, but complimentary lifestyle residential communities that complement the mixed-use community University Place has established,” said Kristin Schmidt, vice president of ICO Multi Family Property Management. “Residents in each community have shared access to the others’ amenities that include a swimming pool, spas, a basketball and sports complex, multiple fitness centers, business centers with conference rooms, game rooms, and commercial-sized hosting venues.”

Both of these new communities are located within walking distance of Trader Joes, Costco and all of the established shopping, dining and entertainment University Place provides, offering a truly walkable community.

“We are happy to be offering more living options in an environment where people can not only live, but work, shop, eat and be entertained,” said Randy Woodbury, CEO and president of Woodbury Corporation. “These uniquely designed buildings that offer living, shopping and parking have been nearly 7 years in the making, and it’s satisfying to see the drawings on paper come to fruition.”

Daily Herald: University Place opens up outdoor activities

While the doors have been continually open at University Place during COVID-19, outdoor activities have been postponed, until now.

Outdoor events have resumed at The Orchard at University Place, a 120-acre, mixed-use development project, with special consideration to participants’ safety and those working at the shopping center, according to Amanda Butterfield, spokeswoman.

“Events have been adjusted to be entertainment based – including concerts, magicians, etc. – and are on a stage, so spectators can watch safely while maintaining social distance,” Butterfield said. “Guests are asked to bring their own chairs or blankets to sit on, wear masks and stay 6 feet apart between household groups.”

For those who would like to take in some shopping, all of the shops and restaurants at University Place are open and following safety protocols recommended by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

“We want guests and employees to feel as safe and comfortable as possible while visiting University Place,” said Rob Kallas, general manager of University Place. “We have increased cleaning in the common areas so furniture and high-touch points are wiped down frequently and on a regular basis, hand-sanitizing stations and signs with the CDC guidelines reminding folks to wear a mask and social distance are placed throughout the property. Also, tables and chairs in our food seating areas and within The Orchard have been spaced out, and at every event we have a booth where we distribute masks and hand sanitizer.”

Daily Herald: University Place gets wild hare, offers gift cards to find virtual bunny

With social distancing and stay-at-home requests, University Place has had to get creative to stay in contact with its customers. Starting Monday that includes a virtual bunny hunt for Easter.

“We’ve had to be creative,” said Cindy Nguyen, marketing director.

The event team at University Place launched the Furry Bunny Scavenger Hunt on its Instagram and Facebook accounts.

According to Nguyen every other day the bunny will be pictured at another location on the University Place campus.

“We want interactivity with our shoppers. Every other day we’ll post the bunny hopping around the UP campus,” Nguyen said. “Shoppers who guess the location will win a gift card to mall restaurants and retailers. Just follow the clues.”

The virtual hunt will go through April 11 and will feature locations inside and outside stores and buildings on the campus.

COVID-19 UPDATE

As the community continues to closely monitor the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus (commonly referred to as the Coronavirus), we continue to work in with the local municipality, the health organizations and state government leaders, to monitor the evolving situation. The safety and health of our guests, employees and community is always our top priority. We are taking all necessary precautions to protect our center as advised by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), World Health Organization and our local, state and federal officials.

In addition to our thorough customary cleaning practices, we are taking additional steps to promote a healthy and clean environment including:

An increased frequency of cleaning and sterilization procedures throughout the center using CDC-recommended products, with an amplified focus on all high-volume touch-points such as restrooms, food courts, eateries, children’s play areas, entrance doors, handrails, trash receptacles, and other commonly used areas.

Out of an abundance of caution, we have cancelled our previously planned events that bring large groups of people to the center. Please check our web site for updates on future events.

This is a fluid situation and our focus will be on continuing to create a healthy, fun, safe, supportive and clean environment for our community to shop.

Daily Herald: Dillard’s moving to University Place

University Place, owned by the Woodbury Corp., officially announced Wednesday they will be partnering with Dillard’s, who will become the newest anchor store at the mall.

The move has long been debated among residents and local social media as the old Macy’s store is in the process of being demolished.

University Place, a 120-acre, mixed-use development project in Orem is undergoing a seven-year update. With the addition of Dillard’s, the original look of the 1970’s University Place Mall will be eliminated.

“We are pleased to join the exciting transformation of University Place with a brand new Dillard’s location,” said Dillard’s Senior Vice President Chris Johnson. “We have enjoyed serving our Utah customers for over 25 years, and we look forward to elevating our efforts with a beautiful new store in Orem.”

University Place Announces Dillard’s as Newest Anchor Store

  • Construction on Dillard’s is Scheduled to Begin This Spring, with an Expected Opening Date of Spring 2021
  • Additionally, University Place Will Also Begin Construction on a New Parking Structure and Class A Office Building

OREM, Utah (January 15, 2020) – University Place, a 120-acre mixed-use development project, today announced that it will be partnering with Dillard’s, who will become the newest anchor store at University Place.

Dillard’s, which ranks among the nation’s largest fashion retailers, offers a broad selection of merchandise and features products from both national and exclusive brand sources. Dillard’s will be located on the west side of the shops at University Place facing State Street, in the former Macy’s building location. Demolition of the Macy’s building is underway, followed by construction of the new building, with an expected store opening in the Spring of 2021.

Dillard’s Senior Vice President Chris Johnson stated, “We are pleased to join the exciting transformation of University Place with a brand new Dillard’s location.  We have enjoyed serving our Utah customers for over 25 years, and we look forward to elevating our efforts with a beautiful new store in Orem.”

The addition of Dillard’s is part of the next phase in University Place’s ongoing redevelopment into a regional mixed-use center. Other developments that will also begin construction include a new parking structure and a Class-A office building with approximately 90,000 square feet of office space.  The new office building will crown an nine-story structure with the bottom five levels consisting of structured parking and a lobby, and the top four levels planned for offices boasting 360-degree unobstructed views of Utah Valley.

“With this newest phase of redevelopment, we are excited to replace the nearly 50-year-old structure that was originally built for ZCMI with a brand-new Dillard’s,” said Randy Woodbury, CEO and president of Woodbury Corporation. “In addition to adding another Class A office building and an expanded parking structure, which will help fill a real need in the community.”
