OREM, Utah (April 29, 2019) – University Place, a 120-acre mixed-use development project formerly known as University Mall, today announced it will be hosting the official 100th birthday celebration for the City of Orem on May 4, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The festivities are free and open to the public and will be held at The Orchard, University Place’s outdoor community gathering space, which was named for the fruit orchards that used to grow in the area.

This event commemorates the anniversary of the official incorporation of the City of Orem, but city officials have planned centennial events throughout the year. As part of these ongoing celebrations, the city has created a collector set of five pins, one of which will be available at the party.

“Not only do University Place’s roots run deep in this community, but Woodbury Corporation also happens to be celebrating its 100-year anniversary this year, so we think it’s pretty fitting that we get to host this wonderful event,” said Randy Woodbury, president of Woodbury Corporation.

“I couldn’t be more excited to celebrate the start of this great city 100 years ago,” said Orem Mayor Richard Brunst. “What started as a means to pass a bond to pay for a new water canal 100 years ago for approximately 2,300 residents has now grown to Utah’s fifth largest city with close to 100,000 residents. Congratulations to all of the former and current residents of the great city of Orem and thank you for 100 wonderful years!”

There are a number of activities planned as part of the celebration, including:

5:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

  • Happy Birthday song lead by Mayor Brunst
  • Free cupcakes
  • All-ages games with prizes including:
    • Fruit fling
    • Root beer ring
    • Corn hole

    • SCERA
    • Center Stage Dance Studio
    • Orem Children’s Choir
    • The Chauntennettes

 7:30 p.m. – 9:00p.m.
