Woodbury Corporation Wins ENR Award of Merit for University Place

Recognition Honors Woodbury Corporation and Partners for Demonstrating Excellence in Safety, Innovation, and Teamwork

SALT LAKE CITY (October 25, 2016) – Woodbury Corporation, a full-service real estate development and management company, today announced that it, along with its project partners Okland Construction and Architectural Nexus, have won a 2016 ENR Award of Merit for outstanding work on the 545 University Place office building at University Place in Orem, Utah.

The recognition is part of Engineering News-Record’s (ENR) annual Best Regional Projects Awards program, which is dedicated to honoring the best U.S.-based construction projects and the companies that design and build them. Independent juries of industry leaders in design and construction from each of ENR’s 10 regional editions judged the projects across 20 specialized categories using a set of criteria that included safety, construction quality, innovation and teamwork.

The 545 University Place office building was honored in the Mountain States region and in the Office/Retail/Mixed-use category. A true team effort, the award recognized the difficulty the team had in constructing an office building and underground parking structure in a very tight site while maintaining access to the surrounding operating shopping center tenants. Okland Construction was given credit for their construction quality, overcoming project challenges, teamwork, and for their safety record of 11,000 hours of work with no accidents. Finally, Architectural Nexus’ design was cited as an identifiable landmark with its unique use of materials and architectural composition, including a 30-degree bend in the building layout, two retail drive-thru lanes at the center of the building, and a 30’ high LED art screen facing the street.

“It is an honor to be recognized by an outside source, and we thank ENR for this wonderful award,” said Lynn Woodbury, vice president of architecture at Woodbury Corporation. “Projects of this magnitude are never easy, but they are made much easier when you have incredible partners like we had in the teams at Okland and Nexus. We are proud of what we’ve done so far, but there is still more to come at University Place.”

Woodbury Corporation and the other regional winners were awarded at a banquet on October 25 at the Salt Lake Marriott Downtown at City Creek.
